Libyan rebels dissolve executive committee over killing of rebels’ military chief

BENGHAZI, Libya — A Libyan rebel official says the movement’s executive committee has been dismissed in move aimed at easing tensions over the recent killing of the rebels’ military chief.

Fathi Turbel says the rebels’ National Transitional Council sacked the executive committee — essentially a government cabinet — on Monday.

Turbel says the council has asked Mahmoud Jibril, the outgoing head of the committee, to form a new board of ministers. The committee is overseen by the National Transitional Council.
