Trucks, camper vans and SUVs join protest convoys around Australian Parliament House

CANBERRA, Australia — Trucks, camper vans and SUVs festooned with anti-government banners and honking their horns have driven around Australia’s Parliament House in a protest calling for new elections.

Police provided escorts to minimize disruption to Canberra’s early morning traffic on Monday as the vehicles drove through the center of Canberra in two convoys.

Organizers of the so-called Convoy of No-Confidence had hoped that up to 9,000 people from around Australia would take part, but Police Superintendent Michael Chew says only 170 vehicles turned up.
