Facebook/POLITICO poll: Ohio split on importance of gas prices

Newt Gingrich's latest pitch on the campaign trail is that he'll reduce the price of gas to $2.50 per gallon, even fundraising by asking people to donate "Newt gallons." According to a Facebook/POLITICO poll, Facebook users in Ohio are split on the importance of gas prices in the 2012 election.

Forty-three percent said gas prices will affect their vote next Tuesday, compared with 47 percent who said they wouldn't and 10 percent who weren't sure.

POLITICO and Facebook are collaborating on Issue of the Day polls. As part of this initiative, POLITICO asks election-related questions using Facebook's publicly available ads targeting people of voting age in areas important to specific primaries. The poll is conducted among Facebook users, not registered or likely voters. The first poll, of South Carolina Facebook users, was released on Jan. 12.

The poll surveyed 4,357 adult Facebook users in Ohio on Thursday.
