Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Sunday the Senate would pass a budget this year but it would include tax reform to add revenue.
"First, it's not true that we haven't had budget control in effect the last several years. The budget control act of 2011 put in rigid spending cuts," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press," pushing back on criticism that the Senate has not passed a budget in years .
Schumer said he's spoken with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and the Senate will pass a budget to deal with sequestration and work on tax reform.
"It's going to be a great opportunity for us because in our budget that we will pass, we will have tax reform...It's going to include revenues," Schumer said.
