I know, it's a bit of a cliche for an Englishman to say that the French really just don't get it but they seem to be insistent on banning Amazon from competing in France: France wants to introduce a law preventing online retailer Amazon from offering discounts and free delivery for books in the country, its culture minister said, arguing this amounts to unfair competition. The French seem to define unfair competition as being competition that works. They really are arguing that because no one else can sell as cheaply as Amazon then Amazon shouldn't be allowed to sell that cheaply. You know, the benefits to the consumer be darned.
