Twelve Years Since September 11: If You Don't Take Time To Remember, You Forget

Twelve years. One year since the last anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The President addresses the nation, not about our national trauma but about our response to Syria gassing innocent civilians. The Freedom Tower cuts a gorgeous figure in the sky. Blue bikes rest on downtown corners. Time passes. Things change. But memories remain. They let us hold on to the meaning of a national trauma that was deeply personal for so many. That is, if you work at it you can hold on to meaning. But if you don’t take time to remember, you forget.
