Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers wasn't pressured to take himself out of consideration to be the next chairman of the Federal Reserve, White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday, promising that President Obama will pick a Fed chair this fall.
In his letter to the president, Summers "made clear he made the decision" on his own, Carney said, and that's the case. Carney wouldn't discuss whether Obama and the White House could have done more
Though Summers was widely seen as the frontrunner for the post, Carney said the timeline for the selection of a nominee "remains the same" and will still come this fall.
