Keiron Cunningham wants RFL to ban a style of tackle after Mark Percival injury

• St Helens centre out for at least 12 weeks after accidental contact at Salford
• ‘Through one of these silly tackles he’s out. The game has to outlaw them’

Keiron Cunningham has called on the Rugby Football League to outlaw a well-publicised style of tackling after revealing the St Helens centre Mark Percival will be out for at least three months with a serious knee injury.

Percival, who was carried off during the defeat by Salford, has sustained a medial ligament injury and will be out for a minimum of 12 weeks. The incident was recognised by the RFL’s disciplinary panel on Monday but the contact from the Salford forward Adam Walne on Percival’s leg was judged to be accidental – an interpretation Cunningham himself agreed with.
