Each year, Queen Elizabeth enjoys a summer getaway at Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands. Other members of the royal family usually join her, including Prince William and Kate Middleton. But things might be different this year.
Prince William and Middleton are reportedly considering delaying the trip to avoid running into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
What’s going on with the Cambridges and Sussexes?
According to The Daily Mail’s veteran royal expert Robert Jobson, the Cambridges are upset with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over two things.
The first has to do with one of Prince Harry’s latest comments. He said in an interview that he and Markle would not have more than two children to save the environment. While it may seem like a fair statement, Jobson said it might’ve offended the Cambridges, “who already have three [kids].”
The other issue revolves around Markle’s decision not to appear on the cover of her guested-edited September issue of British Vogue. She reportedly opted out because she didn’t want to seem “boastful” — and some people interpreted that comment as shade toward Middleton, who appeared on the cover of Vogue back in 2016.
“What will have [fueled] William and Kate’s disquiet, too, is Meghan’s stint as guest editor on British Vogue’s September issue,” Jobson explained. “The Duchess insisted it would have been ‘boastful’ to appear on the cover – but failed to mention that Kate became the fashion bible’s cover star two years previously.”
Prince William and Middleton could still avoid Prince Harry and Markle if they decide to go
According to Jobson, Balmoral is so huge that the couples likely wouldn’t run into each other anyways. “If their stays do coincide, the families could easily avoid each other,” Jobson explained. He noted that the Cambridges had planned on staying in one cottage, while the Sussexes stayed in a separate house.
But they’d miss an important event
The queen is reportedly throwing Markle a birthday tea party. So if Prince William and Middleton delay their trip, they’ll likely miss out on a sweet moment.
“They will celebrate Meghan’s birthday [on Aug. 4], and the catering team will bake a cake to mark the occasion,” a source previously told The Sun.
It’s also the Sussexes first family trip to the Scottish Highlands. So the Cambridges would also miss out on some potentially precious Kodak moments with baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
It’s a pretty unfortunate update. But it’s not the first time they’ve had issues. Things reportedly went south in 2017 when Prince William expressed doubts about Meghan Markle following her lightning-quick engagement to Prince Harry. And, more recently, they feuded when Prince Harry and Markle decided to split households from the Cambridges.
Sigh. If this latest report is accurate, they’ll work it out soon. Can we get a group hug?Read the original article from The Cheat Sheet
