Will ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Introduce This ‘Young Avengers’ Hero?

There has been a lot of talk surrounding the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel. From the director’s exit to leaked casting announcements, it’s hard to know what’s really happening. But the potential introduction of one new hero is among the most exciting bits of recent news. Read on to learn which member of the Young Avengers could be making their debut in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ was announced in 2019

There were rumors for years that Doctor Strange would get a sequel. But first, Marvel had to finish off the Infinity Saga. Finally, at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019, once the final film of Phase 3 was out in theaters, Kevin Feige and co. were ready to reveal the anticipated follow-up.

Titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the movie will bring back Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular sorcerer. Benedict Wong will also reprise his role as Wong. So far, we have very little other concrete information, aside from the release date: May 7, 2021.

Director Scott Derrickson exited the project in 2020

With its planned debut a little over a year away, rumors about the plot, characters, casting, and more have been rampant. And with director Scott Derrickson back on board, he quickly became the de facto person to go to with questions about the film.

Unfortunately, there was clearly a difference in vision. On Jan. 9, 2020, Derrickson announced that he had left Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness because of “creative differences” with the studio. There were many reasons as to why this could have happened, but we’ll likely never exactly what they were.

‘WandaVision’ will be connected in this way

One of the major struggles when it comes to constructing an MCU film is tying in all of the elements that are necessary to connect it to the larger story. This first became a topic of discussion after Joss Whedon spoke about the process following Avengers: Age of Ultron. And it could have contributed to Derrickson’s decision.

Now, there are even more moving parts that have to be tied together. For instance: Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch will be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Her Disney+ series, WandaVision, is currently in the works and is due out prior to the film. And she may not be the only heroine who appears in the upcoming movie.

There are rumors that Miss America will debut in ‘Doctor Strange 2’

As Disney/Marvel works to move forward with the pre-production on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, casting announcements have been getting a lot of interest. One such recent one called for a “teenage Hispanic female.” Screen Rant and other outlets believe this could mean America Chavez is on her way to the big screen.

Miss America, a member of the Young Avengers, has an origin story that connects her to the Multiverse. She has superhuman strength as well as the ability to fly, and can “kick open holes in reality.” We hope that her incorporation isn’t the reason Derrickson left the project, but if it is, we can only assume that whoever replaces him will know how to introduce this incredible character.
