Но сначала, хочу ответить для себя и для читателей этого блога на вопрос — зачем я все это пишу? Как я давно уяснил для себя, иногда написать что то для других — это самый лучший способ понять это для себя. Как человеку, который практически занимается инвестициями около 18 лет, мне иногда очень важно отрефлексировать свой опыт. Например, два моих последних поста о стратегическом подходе к инвестициям укрепили меня во мнении, что наше понимание об инвестициях и рынках капитала, мягко говоря, немного устарело. Товарищ Курцвайль был прав, когда пугал всех сингулярностью — мир вокруг нас меняется быстрее, чем мы можем эти изменения осмыслить, не говоря уж о том, чтобы на них отреагировать. Что, с одной стороны, пугает, с другой стороны — приводит в восторг. Каждый день я чуствую, что я живу в мире, о котором фантасты 70-х и 80-х годов даже не могли мечтать. Только Станислав Лем, кажется, предсказал наш мир до пугающей точности… Но я, вроде, опять отвлекся Я обещал рассказать о своем опыте долгосрочного инвестирования, и вот, наконец, собрался с духом. Если коротко и тезисно, то вот вам несколько пунктов, суммирующих мой опыт 1. Долгосрочное инвестирование действительно работает. Если вы отложите потребление сегодня в пользу получения дохода завтра, то скорее всего, сможете на этом заработать. 2. Главный принцип любого инвестирования — не покупать Говно. Или, если перефразировать: НЕ ПОКУПАТЬ ГОВНО. О том, что такое говно, читайте мой бложик, прошлые и будущие записи. 3. Как бы вы не инвестировали деньги в покупку долей бизнеса ( каковыми и являются обыкновенные акции), гораздо больший возврат на инвестиции вы получите от вложений в себя, или в свой собственный бизнес.Итак, начнем году где то в 98-м или 99-м я начал интересоваться инвестициями. Увы, не помню, что за книги я тогда читал, но идея покупки доли бизнеса через покупку акций (а никак иначе я это тогда не воспринимал, и до сих пор так считаю) показалась довольно интересной. В то время, открыть счет у американского брокера, находясь в России — было в принципе плевым делом. Американские конторы в то время были готовы открыть счет гражданину любой страны, за исключением небольшого набора стран типа Кубы, Ирана и Северной Кореи. Честно говоря, не знаю, изменилось ли что-то с тех пор. Тогда это было просто. Основной проблемой был перевод денег. Я почему то тогда решил, что самый простой и дешевый способ перевода денег брокеру — это отправить ему чек. Чеков у российских граждан тогда не было, как и сейчас, но тогда можно было купить дорожные чеки American Express, которые везде свободно продавались. Я просто покупал чеки American Express и отправлял их своему брокеру в Нью Йорке обычной почтой. Тогда это работало. Моей первой покупкой были акции компании под названием Egghead. Тогда это была самая популярная онлайн — площадка для покупки всякой электронной фигни, с функциональностью аукционов и т д. В те далекие времена Amazon ничего кроме книг еще не продавал, и egghead был самой передовой онлайн конторой, на которой можно было купить все — от ноутбуков с 386-м процессором, до цифровых камер с целыми 250,000 пикселями. Немного предсказуемо, egghead накрылся вместе с остальными доткомами пару лет спустя, обнулив мои инвестиции. Я к тому времени переехал в Канаду, где живу до сих пор. Если кому то интересно, сразу скажу, что моя иммиграция не была ни колбасной, ни политической. Мне хорошо жилось и в России, и хорошо живется в Канаде Причиной переезда был в основном врожденный авантюризм и желание попробовать пожить в другой стране Канадские брокеры в то время брали 25 долларов за транзакцию, в то время как американские брали около семи. поэтому я сохранил свой счет у американского брокера, продолжая слать ему дорожные чеки для пополнения счета. Самым запомнившимся моментом было 11 сентября, когда мои чеки пропали, не дойдя до брокера. Почтовое отделение находилось в цокольном этаже Всемирного Торгового Центра, и было разумеется разрушено. Брокер находился в одном квартале от WTC и уцелел. American Express восстановил мои дорожные чеки, не обманули. Потом была куча еще каких то диких «инвестиций», по принципу «это круто — покупаем акции». Я в разное время владел акциями контор, занимающихся опреснением воды на багамах, разработкой вакцин для прививки куриных яиц (оказывается, яйца тоже можно прививать !), и автоматическими чекаут — терминалами. На начальной стадии своей карьеры как инвестора я попал в типичную ловушку начинающих инвесторов, считая что инвестирование в компании, продающие передовые технологии, автоматически обеспечит хороший возврат. Разумеется, все эти компании постигла более-менее одинакова судьба. Он либо разорились, либо ни фига не росли, и были проданы. Все это к тому же происходило на фоне краха доткомов ( который я лицезрел воочию, так как работал IT — консультантом на некоторые такие доткомы), и потом через пару лет — атак террористов на WTC. Крах доткомов меня не очень затронул, так как я в них никогда не инвестировал и не верил, а падение рынка после 9/11 прошло довольно спокойно, так как у меня тогда не было слишком много инвестиций, и не так уж много и потерялось. Тем не менее, я сделал для себя выводы о том, что инвестиции в компании, продающие всякие замечательные вещи, вовсе не являются такими замечательными для инвестора. Как оказалось впоследствии, когда осела пыль от краха доткомов, в те времена, самые лучшие результаты можно было получить, инвестируя в компании «старой экономики» типа Phillipp Morris ( которая потом разделилась на Kraft, Altria, и Phillip Morris international), или какую нибудь Pepsico ( отпочковала от себя Yum Brands, который взлетел как ракета за счет китайского рынка) Но в 98-м и 99-м на такие унылые компании никто и не смотрел. Они просто нахрен никому тогда не сдались. Все покупали Nortel Networks, JDS Uniphase, и прочие конторы, наверняка не говорящие ничего читателям этого блога. Поднимите руку те, кто слышал про JDS Uniphase! Вот, то-то! Рост до 153 долларов, и обратно к 2. Самые крутые ребята в то время делали стартапы и доткомы, менее крутые, но более умные — открывали конторы по продаже услуг этим доткомам, справедливо решив, что продавать лопаты на золотом прииске — гораздо выгоднее, чем копать золото самому. Я же, продолжая работать на дядю, гордо шел по граблям, разложенным на пути долгосрочного инвестора. Спасибо всем, кто прочитал… продолжу в следующем посте через пару дней. Nortel Networks to pay U.S. bondholders up to $1 bln in interest

WILMINGTON, Del., July 24 (Reuters) - Nortel Networks Inc, the U.S. unit of defunct Canadian telecom company Nortel Networks Corp, has agreed to pay up to about $1 billion in interest that has accrued on the $3.9 billion it owes to its U.S. bondholders, a court filing showed.

U.S., Canadian courts begin unusual trial over Nortel billions

WILMINGTON, Del, May 12 (Reuters) - Judges in Wilmington, Delaware, and Toronto jointly kicked off a novel cross-border trial on Monday to divvy up the $7.3 billion that was raised in the liquidation of once-mighty telecoms equipment maker Nortel Networks, which went bust in 2009.

Spherix sues Cisco over switches, routers patent infringement

March 27 (Reuters) - Spherix Inc, which buys and licenses technology patents, said it filed a lawsuit against Cisco Inc alleging infringement of 11 patents Spherix acquired from Nortel Networks.
